Alone I Break

What can you do,
When love leaves you cold,
When your heart empties out,
Left with no one to hold?
The hurt and the pain,
Push out everything else.
You think back on your life,
And start hating yourself.
Without her there,
The world is dark.
The loneliness,
Will tear you apart.
Your soul always aches.
The pain just won’t stop.
You find yourself wishing,
You’d never wake up.
She’s what made you whole.
How can you go on?
Your life has no meaning,
Now that she’s gone.
You beg and you plead,
For any reprieve.
What could you have done,
To make her not leave?
At the end of the day,
You close your eyes,
And picture her face,
One more time.
The flame of your love,
Is the only light left.
It burns alone,
Within yourself.

Words

Crafted with love or fear or loathing.

Fueled by hope and hate and brooding.

They create our wars and start our fights,

Mend our hearts and change our lives.

They bring some comfort to those with none,

But give the orders to fire the guns.

With edges sharp they’ll cut you deep.

May keep you from or give you sleep.

They touch our souls and bring us peace.

Make soldiers cry and children dream.

They fill our books, they give us language.

They cause the rise and fall of nations.

They form the world and keep us safe,

By protecting ideals and preserving faiths.

Their sting burns longer than any weapon.

Their resounding consequences forever echo.

Alone they survive the test of time,

Preserving our past for all humankind.

Waiting Love

I see you look into my eyes,
Though your gaze is far away.
You wish that I was something more,
I know you cannot stay.

I try to be the things you need,
My love, forever true.
Your dreams are dancing elsewhere,
I hear them call to you.

I would not stop your changes,
You cannot live for me.
I hope you find your happiness,
Wherever it may be.

I ask that you remember,
The times and trials we’ve seen.
The happiness we’ve been through,
More perfect than a dream.

This will not be our story’s end,
Our love is much too great.
You’ll face the world and find yourself,
In the meantime I must wait.

My love, seek out your missing piece,
I give my strength to you.
Have faith, for I will have your back,
In all you ever do.

Loving Wrath

Disclaimer: I was working on another post today when something happened that made me realize I had woken up in a terrible mood. Suddenly my blog topic just didn't seem to work for today, so I wrote the following. As you read it, it might seem that this is aimed at someone, maybe even written to hurt that someone. That is not my intention at all. I trust that this person knows how much I love her. My words are merely a means to vent.

Sittin’ on a powder keg.
Just one more fight.
Keep on shoutin’,
Cause it’ll make this right.
Words like bullets fly,
Rippin’ through our skin.
Your tears hurt me,
More than anything else can.
I know it’s my fault.
We’re both on the ledge.
Just waitin’ for a shove.
Speed it up with a straight edge.
I try to be better.
I know it’s no use.
You gotta have more,
Than another excuse.
Anger boils down.
Our venom leaks out.
Nothing has changed.
Why the hell do we shout?
I need you so bad.
Wanna make things right.
Does this make it easy?
Is that why we fight?

Heroes

Stop and thank the heroes,
The ones who take the time,
To make our lives much safer,
Or just to make you smile.
The soldier in a foreign land,
Fighting bravely for our world.
The teacher who reaches out,
To those that need a little more.
Heroes come in many forms,
It matters not their size.
They selflessly give of themselves,
So we have better lives.
A child who sits next to the kid,
Whom others pushed away.
A mom who fixes her daughter’s lunch,
And hugs her every day.
Heroes walk among us,
They can come from anywhere.
The stranger walking down the street,
Could be someone that cares.
Think of the fireman who rescues,
Families from the flames.
Or the store clerk who tells you,
You forgot your bag today.
Right now I thank those people,
The ones that have our backs.
They make our world a better place,
By being the friends we lack.

Animal Warfare

The wolves are attackin’ and their knives ain’t dull.

There’s gonna be bloodshed, better find a hole.

The turkeys got their ninja suits but that won’t matter,

A great big weasel’s gonna make them splatter.

Three little bombs are strapped to the cow,

The explosion shrapnel pelts the sow.

A gopher dives from out of the dirt,

His semi-automatic puts holes in your shirt.

The snakes can’t be trusted cuz they’re all spies at heart

The bear’s gonna catch you and tear you apart.

Your best hope is to run for the trees,

If the monkeys don’t get you, maybe you're free.

A Dream's Embrace

I know its spell has taken hold, I cannot stop the pull

The twinkle in your perfect eyes, reflecting back its glow

A summer rain upon your head, the sidewalk grips your feet

Within the throng you feel at home, I know I can’t compete

The trains will guide you where you’ll go, their rumble in your heart

I’ll be walking next to you, although we are apart

The city’s song surrounds you, it tugs upon your soul

Without it you are only half, and I would have you whole

Return its call, in its embrace, I know you’ll find your way

Your dreams they kiss your fingertips, grasp hold, be not afraid

Our lives are locked and intertwined, our paths will always meet

I love you so I let you go, the world within your reach
